There are multiple ways to speed up a website, however most of them require that the developer search and rewrite the code. While this is certainly effective, it's time consuming and in the meantime, visitors will still experience slower loading times. However, there are other solutions for speeding up a website, and we have one such solution integrated in the Control Panel - the Varnish Cache web accelerator.

Varnish is a caching HTTP reverse proxy, which stores HTTP calls in the RAM and returns them to the visitor instead of waiting for the server to return them.

Tests show that implementing Varnish for a website or a web application typically speeds up delivery with a factor of 300 - 1000x.

Varnish also has a way of setting up how incoming requests can be handled - if they should be served by Varnish, by the server, etc. Varnish is employed by many popular websites, which have hundreds of daily visitors like answers.com, weather.com, livejournal.com, squidoo.com and many other.
